My therapist recommended one for me today. I was just wondering if anyone has ever been to one or heard anything about one. We didn't get into it it very much, just wondering if anyone knew anyting about it.

I have heard of them as I have a friend that went on one, but, I honestly do not know much about it. This same friend is supposed to come by tomorrow (Saturday) to visit, I can ask her if you like.

Maybe it is where you go somewhere by yourself to just think about things and you would have no distractions. You can learn a lot about yourself when you are all alone and by yourself. I am not certain what it is though. Just an educated guess.

My friend that has attended one of these was just by visiting. She said that it is a retreat where you are "away from technology" - and since there is no TV, radio, cell phones, computer or anything like that you have the chance to really meditate and get back in touch with yourself.

The one that she went to was here in Texas, about two hours outside of Dallas. Wooded area, lakes, hiking, things of that nature. She said she really got a lot out it and spoke with high praise for the experience.

For me - I just long to go camping or something that brings me into the wonderful rythms of nature.

Maybe even just quitely sit around a campfire and watch the fire dance.

Ahhhhhhh!

I feel most at peace at the ocean where not only the ebb and flow of the tides quiets and soothes my soul....but I feel deep within the cells of my body that that is where I came from.

Like the ocean is earth's placenta.

Overmyhead, let us know how it goes for you.

I have taken Solitude Retreats before....just to shut out all of the noise, and busyness of my life. I take time to be quiet and just listen sometimes. I don't take many vacations so I will do it at home at times when I know I will be alone. But if you can get away, I think that would even be better. It is almost like a mind and body rest shutdown. This is what it is for me anyway. I would be interested in knowing if you do take one though ok? Let us know how it turns out!

i've done something like that before. seems like it would really give you space to think. our lives are so bombarded with information. seems like this could be a good thing.

Thanks for all of your imput. It was the first I had heard of it. At first I thought she just meant I should go somewhere by myself, then she said let her know what I decided because she knew of some really great places. I didn't know that there were actual places for this.

I think I would be great for me, but I think my husband would panic... like what do I need to be alone for and all that kind of stuff. He would survive, but he would definately panic. But he is one of the main reasons I need to be alone in the first place.

So I am going to give this serious consideration.
