You are right about that. Never give a drug addict money or anything they can get money for. Crack, crystel, meth, cocaine depletes the brains feel good chemical. It takes a while for the brain to start producing it on its own that is why you feel bad. Stay away from anythng and everyone that you associate with that drug. The first time I ever tried something like that It took my breath away. I did not like the high. Yes love the addict but dont enable the behavior.

I just put my 31yr old son in a rehab for this drug. Its been years andyes i enabled him. I am destroyed, depleted of feelings and financial and material things. They can be replaced but the worn out feeling i have from the mental and physical fight has put too much on my health. Good luck

I have lots of thoughts on crack addiction. none of them good. My husband used crack for years. I thought I was going crazy. My children have been thoroughly warned about the horrible addictive nature of this particular drug.

I first tried crack around age 15. I got into snorting cocaine at age 18, got hooked on heroin at age 20. From 24-26 I smoked crack daily and used heroin for 6 months here and 6 months there, whenever I would get kicked off methadone I would return to heroin because I would be totally dope sick. Heroin is a physical addiction. When you are strung out you need it or else you throw up, sweat, chills, runny nose, watery eyes, jerky legs, insomnia, anxiety, etc.

I stopped smoking crack July 2006. My ex is still smoking crack running the streets homeless and going downhill fast. He's on methadone for his heroin addiction but he'll get kicked off for using crack because you can't continue to get dirty drug screen's and stay on methadone. I'm on methadone and doing well. I get takehome's and only have to travel to the clinic a couple times a week. Heroin was my drug of choice, I used cocaine whenever I wasn't using heroin. When a person is on methadone they can't get high off heroin so they often crave some kind of high and even though cocaine is the exact opposite of heroin many methadone patients that aren't in recovery start abusing crack. I'm in recovery and doing well. I have two counselors outside the treatment center that I see. I'm also dealing with my codependency recovery.

Thanks to everyone who responded. I never went to rehab or got a sponsor. This sort of thing I have more success on my own (I was a hardcore drinker for 15yrs) & I managed to quit. I can drink socially, never get drunk & you would never guess by looking at me that I've abused anything. I don't think this approach is for most but it is what I can live with & works for me. I have really made an effort to educate myself, I believe it is up to the individual to make their mind up to quit & stats show that no every approach works for everyone. All I know is one day at a time. If I feel the need to change my method If this stops working for me then I will.

Got2- Some can do it on their own. I was like you quit smoking, drinking, drugs on my own. The ones who are internally motivated like you have the best success. Keep up the good work.
