Does anyone have any info on disassociation?
And the difference between disassociative disorder and disassociative IDENTITY disorder... I started with a new Therapist, i trust her and feel very comfortable with her, and we have started to do some memory work.... in turn, i have started disassociating during our sessions.... i am able to fight to stay grounded so far..... but is getting more and more difficult to do. SHe is noticing the signs, and asks if i want to "leave" or "stay", respecting the decision.... (leaving or staying in the conscience sense, not in the actual).... i have done this in the childhood during my abuses, and have no recollection of my intellect and emotion as being anything but separate... in fact she addresses them as two identities, whereas past therapists tried to encourage me to merge the two.. thing is her approach works, where as the others did not. But i have no missing blocks of time, so i assume that disassociation and D.I.D. are similar, but also very different. Im sorry if this is not terribly coherant... my mind is racing a mile a minute... when i discussed this with my husband (who is also a survivor) he says that i have very strong mood swings, which i was not aware of.... but like i said, no missing blocks of time.....
I appreciate any input......

Hi Hsuzie! There are great sources of info on the sights mentioned on this sights main page, especially about dissociation. I think I'm in the same boat that you are, and do the same thing in counseling. Also the emotion/intellect separation. I think Multiple personality disorder is inaccurate, because I don't have any missing blocks of time, but now I'm gonna to research DID. You have already survived so much--persevere!

http://www.clinicalsocialwork.com has information on this disorder and people stories of their lives and living with this disorder. It is very interesting so you might want to check it out. Good Luck!
