"AFTER A WHILE"

By Veronica A. Shoffstall......NOT ME!!! šŸ˜›

After a while, you learn the subtle difference between holding a hand and chaining a soul.

And you learn that love doesn't mean leaning, and company doesn't always mean security.

And you begin to learn that kisses aren't contracts, and presents aren't promises,

And you begin to accept your defeats with your head up and your eyes ahead,with the grace of a woman, not the grief of a child.

And you learn to build all your roads on today, because tomorrows ground is too uncertain for plans,and futures have a way of falling down in mid-flight.

After a while, you learn that even sunshine burns if you get too much, so plant your own garden,and decorate your own soul, instead of waiting for someone to bring you flowers.

And you learn that you really CAN endure, that you really are strong, and you really do have worth, and you learn,

and you learn,

with every goodbye, you learn.

columbia & gayle~

you are so welcome, at 5:30 this morning, i was just sitting here, and i thought that this might help so many people...doesn't look that way now, but we'll see what happens later in the day.

i copied it years ago, when i was in my very early teens, and i liked it then, but it didn't really mean as much then as it does now. i lost it among tons of junk, and it just recently resurfaced :o) i am so glad you enjoyed it!!

love and hugs

I am having a really bad day. I am missing my ex more than I did this time last year. Which can't be a good thing can it?

Just read this, and although it pains me to read it. It has helped to remind me, that I will be alright. Not great. But alright is a start....

Thanks

~love charlie~

"And you begin to accept your defeats with your head up and your eyes ahead, with the grace of a woman, not the grief of a child."

Boy, that line says it to me tonight. If I in fact managed to do that today, I am rightfully proud. I think I did, at least in part.

Thanks for that, DS

Love, Lass

Thanks Ds for the poem, it's very wise, but it made me cry. It has pessimistic tone, though. Love, ~Ras~

ras~

sorry it made you cry, it does that to some.

it does kind of sound pessimistic, but it is meant to make the reader look at life, and hopefully gain some insight from it, instead of constantly falling down.

it's supposed to help you learn to not be disppointed all the time by life.

love ~ DS

I really love this. It is well written, and so full of hope and honest wisdom. Very bittersweet.

2b, if you see this it makes me think of when we where talking about planting your own garden this year...

I think this poem is along tthe tone of yours. There's nothing good or bad, right? This is what a psychiatrist would say in defense of my xh (he didn't know better then)

If I Had Known

Author: Mary Carolyn Davies

If I had known the trouble you were bearing;
what griefs were in the silence of your face;
I would have been more gentle and more caring;
And tried to give you space.
I would have brought more warmth to the place,
If I had known.
If I had known what thoughts despairing drew you;
why do we never try to understand?)
I would have lent a little friendship to you.
And slipped my hand withing your hand,
And made your stay more pleasant in the land,
If I had known.
