Just wondering if anyone knows if inmates in prison can make calls to someone and charge another phone number for the call (it's called third party calls). Please let me know, if anyone has any idea. It's rather important. Thanks.

I don't know, but think - probably not...I'd call my phone company though and ask them, they definitely should know. As I understand it, if you try to do that now - the person you are charging to - has to be home to say okay. They used to let you do that a long time ago, but as far as I know - it doesn't happen now. And I'd think that inside prison it would even be stricter. The operator can see where the call is coming from...it comes up on her screen.

I would think not sinse most prisons are on a different line a friend of mine has a family member in prison.. she cannot call and when he calls the phone will automatically hang up after 15 and there is a certain time limit before he can call back and it is expensive as all get out... I would say if they could the third party's bill would be so hi that if it did happen it would be the last time ...:)Sue

I have a feeling that it is possible, however, I do believe that some one must accept the charges, like a collect call. Most calls are collect calls from prison, and yes they are the most expensive phone calls that you'll ever see. I do believe that some of the money goes back into the system, but don't know for sure. I am sure that the phone company can answer the question.

I know that it needs to be accepted...But I swear that the person that called me like that was a guy in prison who put me through complete hell a few years back. I talked to the phone company and they said that they have no idea where the call came from, and I won't know until I get the bill. It's all automated now. Thanks for your input.
