Hey everyone,
I have gotten to know quite a few of you on here through posts. We share emotional ups and downs tears and laughter and I was just curious to know what we all do to pay the bills- so to speak. Do you love what you do? do you hate it? Are you in school- if so what are you studying? Share only as much as you are comfortable sharing- I was just curious.... here I will start.

I am a sous Chef at a private golf course. I love what I do but I despise golf and all things relating to golf- especially the attitude of those who play the game. Never the less, I have a great crew to work with and the exec. Chef is a laugh riot. I can honestly say that I don't mind going into work- summer is a little difficult as I have been working 6 days a week 12 hour days but I will have most of the winter off so I suppose it is give and take. That is it!
oh yeah, Iam not really 9-5, I am more like 10am to 10pm. Looking forward to hearing more about your lives. Freya.

Hi Freya!

That sounds like a kewl job. There are so many things I wanted to try, being a professional chef was one of them, never made that goal tho... I'm a nurse, have been since 1977. Right now I'm doing home health, actually private duty for a family who is having a rough time. Wen I was working for a company I was ADON for 6 years and taught the nursing course. I really miss that, but not the stress. So I live off this new job which is part time and a monthly income I have. I barely get by, but I do have everything I need and get some of what I want. I just miss those 3000 bucks or so a month, LOL!

Sunny 😉

I am the personal assistant to the director of one of the colleges at the university in my town. I get to organize her entire life. Somehow I am better at organizing someone else's life than my own....

Sunny, you guys are the salt of the earth! I mean that sincerely. On Spetember 2 of this year, my grandfather lost his battle with cancer. He chose to die at home which meant we had home care nurses come in a few times daily to assist with care. The woman who was with him when he passed was so touching and compassionate, she said a prayer while he was "going" and assured him that is was safe and that his daughters were beside him. The few days prior to his passing, she explained to us what would happen and that it would be way worse for us to watch than for him. Anyway, I know myself that I could never do what you do. It takes alot of strength and what you offer to the family is utter peace of mind.

Cici? Are you by chance a virgo? I have 3 friends who are virgos and they are meticulously organized. If we are planning a trip we leave the planning to them. It really amazes me what they can do!

Nope, a libra. Supposedly very social and creative....although I am not really that sociable and my creativity is limited to food, ha ha ha. bacon and marshmellow sandwich, anyone?

But I really like taking a big pile of unorganized stuff and making it all neat and organizied and compartmentalized. Makes me feel better for some reason.

Freya,

I really love what I do. Geriatrics is my specialty, even though sometimes it is sad, dealing with death and dying. I look at it as I am helping them to keep their dignity, be as painfree and comfy as possible. Sometimes we are the last voice they hear and I find it all very rewarding. I could really tell you all some amazing stories about the folks I have helped when their time came. It's quite humbling. I am glad you had such a good experience with visiting nurses! I can relate to your post very much, in fact it brought tears to my eyes. (Good ones)

Hugs,

Sunny

Hey guys. I'm in the financial industry, very white collar, very 9 to 5 (ok, 8 to 4). I love the people I work with but the job is not for me. It pays the bills and is a good job. But my first love is EMS here in this rural community. I am a volunteer EMT virtually around the clock, whenever the pager goes off. I am on one service that I only run with from work, another that covers my hometown, and a third in a larger town down the road. There is nothing more rewarding to me than emergency medicine. I'm the one who holds your hand as you have a heart attack, cuts the roof off your car with the Jaws of Life, helps load you into a helicopter, or just listens as we transport an elderly person scared and ill.

I love it!!!

Did anyone notice the common thread in our occupations??? Service:) We are so codep...lol. Had to note.
I run two restaraunts, fast-casual service with a smile:) I hate it now. I love being independent but that does NOT mean you choose your hours as an owner. And the most unfortunate part is that Mr. Jack is the other owner. Which is why I am STILL dealing with him and trying to get away from him as a bf. He keeps trying. My father warned me he would never quit so long as I had contact with him in any way with my life, he would always try to exert control. So true...
I worked in a hospice and retirement home, was the worst pay I ever worked for per hour but the most fulfulling ever. I will go back to that for awhile if I go bankrupt after all. (Turns out new partner is having second thoughts... i'm so depressed). I really loved working with the elderly, it is tough dealing with death but its also rewarding to make your patients smile and feel comfortable:)

Hey, guys interesting thread, so here goes...

I'm a software engineer for a small company. I sit on my butt all day programming computer software. I really like what I do. I've been doing this kind of work now for more than 11 years. The money is good and it's more or less a 9-5 (8-5 with lunch) job. Ah, yes, it is a service oriented job. I have lots of customer service that I do.

However, I was intrigued with maggalisa's assessment of the nature of our job's - all service oriented. I think she may be on to something, but I have another possibility; don't want to discuss that here, though; not related to codep. 🙂

I worked for the airlines for 9 years...I love to travel. Then I owned my own coffeehouse...and was a radio DJ at a local AM station.

I recently moved home after my breakup and have been doing temp office work...currently in an Architectural Firm...don't know what I want to do for a permanent job.

I actually have thougth of trying to join the peace corp for a few years....i guess it is pretty tough to get into though.

I am a real estate agent, which I really love. I look at it as service work. Someone has something they want to sell and of the 6 billion people in the world, there's got to be someone who wants or needs their place! I mostly work with expats so there is alot of handholding and helping them figure out how it 'works' here. (HHHMMM).

I like the hours, which are as long as I want, or as little as I want.

did I hit it on the money with the service or what? hehe
I think its because its fulfilling though, seeing other people's reactions to the products I'm selling, it is very gratifying

Funny you say servie oriented. I don't think mine is but would love to work in the mental health field that is my passion. I can sit and read a psycology book for fun (sick I know) *grin*

I process foster care and adoption referrals. Track foster care kids and make payments to our contractors. I work with other state agencies but don't work with the public. I want to be a counselor. Although I enjoy what I do I don't love my job and I don't like everyone I work with so many judgmental people in that field that think they are better than... and yes 8-5. Don't want to say to much afraid I will give myself away. I am paranoid I guess lol.

Post office? Aww, man. Now I can't talk to you. Fraternizing with the enemy is never looked upon in a good way.
