I don't know what to do. I have tried antidepressants and they don't do the job all the way. I have had a lot of things happen to me, found my dead father after he committed suicide (when I was six). Molested by my mom's boyfriend at age 8. Suffered emotional and some physical abuse from my mom, most of my life. Don't know if these issues in the past have caused my depression. What's the chances of counseling really working?

counseling can help you but it will not solve your problems you are the only one who can do that

Counseling can help. You need to say to yourself that you have a problem , which I am pretty sure that you already know that. You need to realize that what happened to you is not your fault. Maybe this is what you have been thinking all this time and you need to talk to a good counselor that will help you to see that your thinking about the past and blameing your self and this is not the case. Would like to know how long you have had the thoughts about the death of your father.How is your daily life now? Are you actuve with tour friends ? Be more involved in what ever you used to do so you can relieve some of the thoughts that are causing you to relive the past. God Bless.

I guess I have always thought of his death . As a child i had no peace I was continuously spooked by it. Would not go in certain rooms of the house or sit certains ways, afraid he would come back. I don't know if it's against the rules or not but I was wondering if I could email you ?

poor flag girl, sorry to hear of your early childhood trauma. A lot of us here have experienced similar traumas, losses, abuse and neglect in early years.
The best thing you can do is deal with your unfinished business in the way of counselling. i have found the best to be a form of therapy that does not dwell, but looks for proactive solutions to recreating a future and present from a change of attitude adn thinking through affirmations, cognitive therapy and journalling.
Do not deny what happened, but if you can find a friend or family member you trust, if you cant afford therapy, and unload as much as you feel comfortable doing in respects to your childhood and then journal the rest every morning in what i can describe as free flow unedited morning pages. just write what you are thinking, feeling and any connections this has to the past. it makes you concious of your thoughts, usually neg, and helps you reform healthy new ones.
