How do you get a family member that doesn't want to go?

As far back as I can remember, my father and brother have never gotten along.  It's gotten to the point where my brother has stopped visiting or showing up at family get togethers. He doesn't really speak to anyone else in the family except for me. Now, I'd love to see them in the room together--at least tolerating each other. I asked my brother what he thought about family therapy, he said he was open to the suggestion. (He actually mentioned that his New Year's resolution was to have a better relationship with Dad.) However, my father has flat-out refused...so, any suggestions for this? I don't think they would be able to sit in a room together otherwise.

I really doubt you will be able to "force" your dad to go to a counseling appointment if he doesn't want to go. I know you want to help, but at this point, I really think it is going to be between your brother and your dad. If your brother makes the first move to patch things up with your dad, maybe he will get somewhere, but I think you are a third wheel in this and your dad probably wouldn't appreciate your involvement. Of course, this is just my opinion as an outsider, going by what you posted above.

It's all right, those were my thoughts too. It would just be nice to be able to see them in the same room for once. It is a bit frustrating, but I am happy that my brother at least is trying to reach out to him.
