I have three children. The youngest, a son, has been married for 6 years.  His wife has a rather high position in the human resources department of a local utility company.  My oldest son has been out of work for a couple of years.  He recently applied for a customer service position at my daughter-in-law's company. I have never asked her for any favors. I am always very kind and loving to her.  In fact, I am planning a baby shower for her in just a few weeks.  My husband approached her and asked if she could get my son an interview for this job.  It is definitely something she can do.  She said that she will talk to the supervisor of the department...but for some reason, I don't believe her.  It is making me very anxious and upset wondering if she will do anything to help my other son.  I know that this is really MY problem, but I'm having a hard time dealin with it.  Any suggestions?

I know that times are tough & that you might feel responsible for your son who does not have a job.  The truth is, he needs to find his own job.  If he has asked his sister in law to help him & she does not want to, she might have her reasons, or she could just be a selfish person, or maybe she feels uncomfortable with the concept.  You can speculate all you want, but do not let it anger you.  It's important that you keep a working relationship with her & with your son.  If your son is sincere about finding a job, eventually he will.  If he asks for your help, you can maybe provide him with the resources to find a job, but he must do the rest on his own.
