Having never heard of this particular situation, I would
like to make it known in hopes that the general
population will take action against treatment facilities
engaging in this activity.
Apparently the East Indiana Treatment Facility in
Lawrenceburg, Indiana, is sending appreciation letters
to patients who have been out of their program for a
time.  These letters also inform these ex-patients (who
are allegedly clean at this point) that the EITF wants
them back!  This facility treats people suffering from
addiction with Suboxine, Methadone, and possibly other
medication.  This practice is not simply unethical, it
is heinous.
The individual I had this conversation with claims that
a relapse occurred shortly after receiving this letter.
The person had been off treatment and clean for two
Since this forum is for asking questions, here are mine:
Could there be an association to this letter and the
Is it legal for an addiction treatment center to send
their ex patients this type of letter, and, more
importantly, should it be?
Overall, this is congruent to a burn unit sending their
patients a letter wishing that their house would catch
fire again.

In Addiction

treatment, showing support can be one of the most effective things. I

think this type of Appreciation Letter is very helpful for ex patients that’s why

I am saying that it is legal for an addiction treatment center to send their

ex patients this type of letter.

I too agree with the above comment that, a letter can make appreciation of its Ex. patients, since it will not only motivate them but will also make their willpower more stronger, from not getting back to back to old addiction days. If anyhow relapse occurs, a patient should immediatly report back to rehab center to get a solution on that.

There is a 60% rate for relapse after an addict completes a program. People have the ability to review what type of treatment a program offers and to choose what program they prefer. A program can write letters and offer their services  and the prospective  consumer is under no obigation to accept them. If you don't want to recieve any more letters from them you can call or write and request that your name be removed from their mailing list.
