Sometimes I feel like I have an irrational fear of death. Does anybody else ever find yourself thinking about it a lot? I know there isn't anything I can do to prevent it, but I go through periods where it's on my mind all the time.

I don't think it's irrational to fear death, since it's unavoidable and a sad part of life. I think it's something most people worry about at times. I turn to my religion when it's on my mind. Looking forward to a better place for myself and my loved ones is very comforting.

Tommy, that's a good way to divert yourself from thinking about death. My father had this problem when we were still little. He was scared of dying that he couldn't sleep at night. He was not really afraid of death itself but afraid that he might be gone leaving us without a father and we were still little that time.

I have always thought of death. It's not like I'm afraid of it, I just fear losing those I love. When I was around 10 years old, I can remember worrying that my parents would die. I cried when I was in bed at night thinking about it. It's funny, because when I lost my mother, I became suicidal.  I have gotten past that now, I don't have the impulse, I just think about it. I can't avoid thinking about it but I will not allow myself to get to the point I was suicidal again.

Contrariwise, I feel that death is nothing to fear. As one who believes in God and in a real Heaven and Hell, I also hold the firm belief that my death will result in my spending eternity in Heaven, and how can that be a fearful thing?

I think it is quite common to fear death just like any other unknown and future thing. What gives it a normal touch is that it is part of life so we might just as well be ready for it.SmileSmile

In my beliefs, death is just a journey from one home to another.
