“Sorry, I didn’t
phone – I was very busy”. Isn’t it a familiar situation? And did you then have
time for a profound rest, for doing things you like, for simply lying and
thinking of nothing? Be frank – not so often, to put it mildly.
And the
results are a simple equation:
risen blood
pressure + rapid heart beating + tense muscles + bad digestion + nightmares = STRESS.
B-O-R-I-N-G,
you will say. Yes, boring! As we are tired of this word, we’ve heard of it for
thousands of times. But no re-chewing of this piece of cooked info this time!
Let’s
shortly discuss it. Numerous pieces of advice claim that for fighting your
stress you should take up, say, yoga or pilates, have a rest in the middle of
the day or consult your psychiatrist and so on. THANK YOU!
Sure, it won’t
do any harm, but doesn’t it sound odd? We are prone to stress because of the
lack of time, and everybody advices us to spend extra time for extra-healthy
activities. A vicious circle, but who likes vicious circles?! If we were able
to do all this stuff we wouldn’t face stress at all, as even the most difficult
problems could have been solved if only we had enough time to think them over.
Let’s be
realistic and try to find the way out without turning our worlds upside down.
What can we really do while stuck in a traffic jam, while sitting in the office
doing nothing, while having a short pause?
Point
number One. If you live with your ears blocked with earphones – listen to
relaxing but energetic music (don’t tell me you dislike this or that – this
music is for universal ears) as even the loudest and the hardcorest sounds
drives you in sleep if you’re tired. Don’t argue – it has been checked and
re-checked. And re-re-checked too. Choose something like Armin van Buuren, ATB,
ERA, Delerium, Enigma, Café del Mar…

Point
number Two. You are sitting in front of the computer reading, typing, thinking?
Use it for relaxing – let your brain have rest while reading short funny
stories, looking through demotivators, memes, comics. But don’t forget that you
still have to work =)
YOUR HELP
NEEDED HERE: let’s make a list of good funny sites!
Point
number Three. Eat RIGHT food. No, I am not talking about expensive foie gras or
time-consuming Rendang Daging. Eat bananas – serotonin will cheer you up. Eat
oranges – their juicy flesh will please your taste and bracing aroma will be a
good natural aromatherapy.
YOUR HELP
NEEDED HERE: let’s make a list of appropriate food!
Point
number Four. Get a small rubber ball that you can squeeze to relax your
muscles. Or throw it into a wall for relieving your anger (be sure the ball is
soft and there is nobody you may hurt – no injuries are meant here). Or if you
really feel a need in injuring someone – do it virtually. Electronic devices with
some hypnotizing games are really helpful – play relaxing Tetris, plunge into
captivating Sudoku or beat a virtual rag doll in Kick the Buddy on any touch
device.
YOUR HELP
NEEDED HERE: let’s make a list of good relaxing games!
Point
number Do-it-always: think positively!!!

Welcome to AAC!
Thank you for sharing such good information about how to fight stress. This will indeed help members out there who are having hard time managing their stress and anxieties. Stress is normal for a living person but it always depends on how we deal with that stress. It's just a matter of dealing with it properly not noticing how stressed actually you are. The disease of your mind becomes the disease of your body. If you're thinking that you'll get sick then your body will just adjust by the demands of your mind ending up being physically sick.

I am new to this forum/site,
just joined today, so getting used to it. Thanks Averkonat for your
interesting, useful ideas on combatting stress. I like your ideas on putting
together lists on things like
suitable music,
funny sites,
relaxing games,
appropriate food
I am a vegetarian & very
much into holisitic & creative living, therapies & products.
So have suggestions to add
to your lists like:
*For suitable music list:
celtic music, I find Enya's
music especially peaceful & inspirational- draws the mind away from
stressful thinking
good escape music: like
escape type of music one can sit back, ly down, relax or work with
some movie soundtracks,
orchestral,
hypnotic music
*For suitable relaxing games
list
depending on peoples ideas
on what is relaxing in computer, electronic, other games
but maybe fun, less
intensive/technically oriented games would be more stress relieving & again
escapism
{ from everyday life,
worries, responsibilities etc }
maybe PC game Angry Birds
Series it is fun, not too technical & some visually interesting themes
Computer Card Games like
Solitaire, Hearts, Chess or traditional card, chess, checkers other board games
Computer 2/3D Puzzle
Adventure Strategy Games like Jewel Quest & Paradise Quest series
these are fun & stimulating
also good to get our minds off personal stress related problems again good escapism
I also want to add
* Suitable Television/Movies
list
watch escapism type shows,
light hearted drama, comedy
I like some specific comedy,
fantasy, adventure shows or movies to relax with & get my mind away from
stressful things/thinking, everyday or even more major worries or problems in
my life
I also want to add
*Other suitable activities
Do something you are
passionate about & enjoy ~ special hobbies, interests as eg
go for a leisure walk to a relaxing place or
park, immersing oneself in a peaceful environment, or amongst nature
or a favourite place you
like to go to get away from the home scene, jobs, office, paperwork, computer
usual daily grind etc
going for a leisure walk is
refreshing, good walking excercise, good for breathing & can deter away
a few negative energies,
negative thinking & revitalise thought patterns
*view the night sky
sometimes this is great on those clear starry nights, looking up into the
wonder of the universe, make a wish or 2
laughing & smiling with
or over our favourite things, hobbies, shows or whatever helps bring forth
inner happiness
even if these are only
fleeting moments it all helps ease stress, upset, tension & anxiety
Laughing is great therapy as
many of us already know
For appropriate food
list { I may add more to this list at
later dates }
well this could be a very
long & diverse list, also depends on peoples tastebud preferences, diets,
allergies etc
but it's good to begin by
reading from varied sources on fruit & vegetables that are especially good
to help relieve stress,
tension & overall health
boosters, help our brains to function or boost bodily functions
Whole
Grain Foods
Those
that can tolerate gluten may benefit from foods with whole grains, like whole
grain pasta and bread. Studies have shown that true whole grains (some
"whole grain foods" still contain processed ingredients) have several
benefits for those with anxiety:
Whole
grain is rich in magnesium, and magnesium deficiency may lead to anxiety.
Whole
grain contains tryptophan, which becomes serotonin – a calming
neurotransmitter.
Whole
grains create healthy energy while reducing hunger – both important for
anxiety.
Whole
grain foods can have a powerful effect on anxiety, and contain nutrients that
have been stripped out of modern day diets.
Also
foods like crackers, biscuits that contain whole grain ingredients like wheat,
rye, barley, corn, oats, rice are beneficial too
Blueberries
& Peaches
Blueberries
are rich in vitamins and phytonutrients (plant nutrients), with a variety of
antioxidants that are considered extremely beneficial for relieving stress.
Many experts also believe that peaches fall into this category as well, because
they have nutrients that appear to have a sedation (calming) effect.
Magnesium & Antioxidants
are good to ease nervous tension, stress & anxiety
Zinc & Vitamin B12 are good to help maintain a balanced mood
& stress
Herbal supplements or
ingredients like Passionflower & Kava are good to help ease anxiety
Indian Ginseng , Magnolia
Officialis, Sacred Basil/Tulsi are good to help ease nervousness, mild anxiety,
worry, stress, restlessness, irratibility, low energy, fatigue
There are probably lots of
foods, especially wholesome grains, cereals, plant foods & substances that
help alleviate or combat stress, anxiety & other health problems, boost
energy levels & general overall well being.
The above is just a small proportion.

Stress cannot be avoided. Situations in your life that may seem to overwhelm you can often leave you powerless.Chronic stress can cause everything from trouble sleeping to tension headaches.Personally, meditation has helped me immensely in coping up with stress ..I try and take time out everyday for some activity I like doing, and also spending time with my loved ones..

Stress can kill. Sometimes without knowing it people around you make your life even more stressful by imposing their opinions and somewhat nasty rules unto your world. A good way for everyone on the planet to avoid causing stress or being subjected to stress is to simply mind their own business. If each and every person was really aware of what their responsibilities were and focused on doing a good job at those things it would not be such a stressful world. Every person needs to take care of themselves first. If you see someone minding their own business and not hurting anyone else, unless you really need their help due to an emergency maybe you could just let them enjoy their free time. That would really help.
Please stop telling others what music to listen to, what foods to eat, what exercise they should do. What works for one person does not necessarily have any bearing on anothers method of de-stressing. The suggestions may be helpful, but once again you are imposing your system onto another human being. Kind of not fair.

Very informative posts above i must say...though its very difficult for each one of us to deal with our day today life stress @ work as well as at home. Though many counters it easily, but most of us couldn't find any solution even we may be knowing the outcome. But seriously stress in our life cannot be overlooked, we should follow some regimes in our life to come out of stress & lead a happy life ahead.

Hello, guys! Thank you for quite useful ideas. As for me, I usually try listening to music, it distract my attention from stress, or making deep breathes. There are many different techniques of breathing. As well I can go traveling by car somewhere, it always helps me (of course, if I`m not too stressed). I usually rent it on https://iversta.com and go somewhere to the nature or just around the city to calm down. But be careful, don`t go by car being drunk or too stressed. Wish you good luck with fighting it.
