I am in a relationship with another recovering addict. We used together and got clean together but independently! When I entered the relationship I was clean for 2 years and he was actively using. I entered into the relationship anyway. I have been VERY happy with him both in & out of active addiction. I believe I am aware of the negitive reasons for entering into a toxic relationship however, like I said I am very happy with HIM. My boyfriend and I have been working our own seperate programs. We have seperate personal issues that we need to deal with. I believe my issue to be co-dependancy. Lately I've been having feelings of insecurity in my relationship. I've never been a jealous person. I guess I'm wondering if it's ME or if there is actually a problem?

There isn't much on relationships where couples get clean together. Any insight into the subject would be awesome! Thanks!!!

tsalerno11,

It's a good thing that you and your BF are working on getting clean and recovery. Just keep it up.

Regarding your relationship with him, you said you're happy having him in your life so I think that's clear enough that it's really a working relationship. Insecurities and jealousy are just normal when you're in an intimate relationship but if you think you have a problem with codependency then you should consult your Counselor for that matter. That way, your symptoms and behavior willl be analyzed properly and you'll know what to do and how to deal with it if proven.

Keep us updated with your posts. Wishing you well.Smile
