Do you think there is a way to get counseling to beat food addiction? If one is severely overweight due to food addiction, would counseling help at all to get past that and lose weight?

I don't think I've ever heard of anyone going for counseling for a food addiction. I think too many people think the person "did it to themselves" and don't think of the mental anguish some people go through because of discrimination and being made fun of. I grew up obese and finally lost all of the weight but not all of the hurtful things that were said and done to me during those years.

Hi,

Yes why not, there is counseling for everything, if you can't help it out yourself go for counseling, don't ignore, it can get worse.

Thanks

Yes, you can receive treatment for any kind of addiction or condition available. Even if the therapist or counselor doesn't specialize in "food addictions" there are so many eating disorders, such as anorexia that many therapists out there have experience working with food addicts (both overweight and anorexic). Depending on what you have, it might be good to explore the different options. Who knows, maybe all you need is a little encouragement from friends or family, or someone who is willing to work with you voluntarily. Healthy eating is such a big emphasis these days that you should have plenty of resources at your finger tips. Hope this helps!

Right, there is counseling for every behavioral addiction. There are lots of counselors available specializing in food addiction and eating disorder so if you're experiencing that certain behavioral problem then get some professional help. That way, you'll receive proper advise and treatment.

food addiction is as severe as any other addiction. Disease of the mind like all addictions, effecting the body. Please stop blaming the substance and start treating the reason why you have decided to abuse it to compensate for whatever pain you are trying to swallow.

You do need counseling but more than that, what you need is will power and self control. If you are addicted to food then they can't even send you to a rehab center, therefore it is only you who can help yourself. This addiction will not be over in a day but the sooner you start puting your control into action, the better it will be for you.May be you could go to a dietitian who will be able to draw out a diet chart for you,of the foods you eat and what all you should avoid. The dietitian will also be able to keep n eye on your progress. So hurry…….

I think that it is depends upon you. If you are over weighted due to food addiction then meet nutrition specialist ask him which food is suitable for you according to your health.

If you are over weighted due to food addiction. Then meet your doctor tell your problem and ask them for which food is good for you. whatever the instruction and exercises told to you. You strictly follow that instructions if you want to look slim.

You need to consult a counselor to determine if it's really an addiction or better yet consult a nutritionist to guide you about proper diet.

Of course there's a counseling as with any kind of addiction. Try to set "small goals" for yourself and give yourself a timeframe to achieve that. If you're having difficulty doing it alone, then you can certainly go for a counseling. The best part is that you're willing to change, which is already a great step.

An eating disorder can be life threatening and life diminishing in much the same way that Alcoholism and other addictive disorders injure the body, mind, and spirit of the victims. We must eat to survive. Total abstinence, as we understand it in other addictive disorders, is an impossibility. For those suffering with compulsive overeating, the portion is always too small.

Additionally read the clients testimonials as you can get a
thought of the sort of administration advertised.
