Hi,
First of all, I’m not addicted to anything, but I used to use heroin thrice a week. Recently, one of my friends lost his life because of this habit, he was addicted to it and died from an overdose before my eyes. This made me scared. I need to quit it ASAP. Am I able to quit it by myself? Or Do I need to join in any rehab centers for it? My mom is advising me to join in CBT associates, an addiction treatment center in Toronto ( http://www.cbtassociates.com/ ). Since it is expensive, I’m confused, but I wonder whether I could handle the withdrawal symptoms. Any advice would be appreciable.

Hello esmithdoll12,

It's great that you're reaching out for help. And, so incredibly awful that you've lost a friend to the opioid epidemic. Unfortunately, heroin is more dangerous than ever before as it's now being mixed with Fentanyl, which is almost 100 times more potent than heroin. This is why the nation is experiencing more and more heroin overdoses daily. You're right to be scared and to understand that you need to stop before you become another statistic.

As far as detox, withdrawal from heroin is not life-threatening. However, it's not a comfortable process, to say the least. As a result, many who decide to detox alone end up relapsing simply because the symptoms are so uncomfortable. But, choosing to detox in a facility provides you with medical staff who are able to prescribe medications which can relieve and reduce withdrawal symptoms. Here at Diablo Valley Drug & Alcohol Services, we offer outpatient detox. This means you can go about daily activities while detoxing and getting the support you need.

Yes, detox is not cheap. However, if you have medical insurance, you may be qualified for coverage. Here at Diablo Valley Drug & Alcohol Services, we accept a number of insurances. Call us today to speak with us confidentially about getting the help you need: (925) 289-1430
