Ken Parkhurst: 20 Outstanding Los Angeles Designers, 1986 - Ken Parkhurst graduated from Hollywood High School, and studied at Los Angeles City College. He loved to draw and always thought of himself as an artist. Ken categorizes designers into 2 groups; those who can draw, and those who can't. His greatest respect and admiration go to those who can draw. He believes designers should expose their hand and expression in their work, rather than just organize type, photos and other elements. During WW II, Parkhurst first job was at Silverwood department store designing window show cards. Ken worked for Alvin Lustig for 2 year until his office went broke. Ken said that Alvin thought that he and Paul Rand were the only true Modern designers in Los Angeles. Parkhurst move on to Advertising Designers, Inc., where he worked for several years. He finally opened his own office, Ken Parkhurst & Associates. His son, Dennis Parkhurst, later joined him, and their business continued to do tasteful sophisticated design. For over 26 year, Parkhurst Associates has received recognition for every kind of graphic design application, including trademarks, advertisements, books and catalogs, packaging, posters, exhibits and signing. Work from the office has been published in the major design journals of the United States, England, Switzerland, Italy and Japan. Parkhurst Associates client list and awards are posted on their Web site. To purchase this Documentary, go to www.archbosgd.com Prof. Archie Boston
