BIO: I took my degree at the University of Maryland in Rehabilitation in 1973. I am a graduate of the Georgetown Family Center, and trained under Murray Bowen, MD, the founding director. I am also a graduate of Jay Haley’s Strategic Therapy program. Since coming to California I have added to these core teachings Inner Child work and have become an addictions counselor working with hypnosis, visualizations, and drama on many forms of addiction including chemical, love, eating, etc. I also work with couples, groups, and give retreats in the Bay Area and have given several intensives in Japan. I am currently in private practice in San Francisco and Belmont (San Mateo County) and work with felons in recovery in a federal halfway house. I have also had training in Spiritual Direction which informs my practice.
PHILOSOPHY: I believe that we are all beautiful creations of God. Yet many of us have been given incorrect messages about ouselves that have made us doubt our essential worthyness. The family is a system that has its rules that can either guide us well or poorly. Dysfunctioal family systems are self perpetuating until the cycle of abuse is stopped through some kind of intervention. There are many metbods put essentially the process is meaningless without the healing bond that re-parents the client. That is a slow process. If the inner child has been the child of focus in his/her family then the process takes time to cancel out the negative messages and replace them with the positive truths of our creation.
It is trough our creativity that we break out of the old patterns and come fully alive and new. We must reframe the fears that hold us back by going down unknown paths into places that our demons find their hold on us is increasingly tenuous. It is a beautiful, frightening and precious journey.
CURRENT WORK: I am devoted to working with addicts, felons and others whose shame is intense and aggrivated by society. I am writing a book on prisoners and the shaming in the prison system. I am just starting to counsel over the internet and am convinced it will bring help to many more people for support and crisis counseling. I would like to find a place to resume my residential retreat work which I have not done for the last two years due to other committments. I like to work with a variety of clients and am doing quite a bit of couples counseling. One of my couples just got married after living together for seven years! No they weren’t in counseling that long!
