What Is Therapy?
In medicine, therapy is the same thing as treatment, and doctors might refer to any type of medicine or program designed to address a patient’s issues as a form of therapy. However, the term is usually used to describe psychoanalysis and specific, related social and psychiatric work. Therapy is a very broad term, and gradually has become an accepted and scientific way to deal with a broad range of problems and conditions through a variety of techniques.

What Therapy Consists Of

Most therapy sessions take place in the therapist’s office, although some therapists do make house calls. Therapy may be ongoing for many years or it may only last for a few months. Some therapy patients engage in a few sessions for a specific problem (for instance, drug addiction or marriage problems) and then switch to another type of therapy for years’ worth of treatment. It all varies, and no two therapists or patients are the same. This extends to the cost of treatment – therapy costs range anywhere from free to hundreds of dollars per hour.

Ask to see the therapist’s credentials and inquire about basic treatment options related to the reason that you’re visiting the therapist in the first place.
