Do you know that as many as 35 million people around the world are living with HIV/AIDS at the end 2009? This includes about 2.5 million children.

That is just horrible! I've also read about a study that as many as 2.8 million got infected with HIV in 2009, while another 17 million died of the disease.

The sad thing is that even with all the education and the information going around about AIDS and preventing it, the number of cases around the world has been rising since 1990, only slightly tapering off over the recent years.

Can you imagine that in the U.S. alone, close to half a million people have already died of AIDS?  And more than a million Americans now live with the disease.

These are very sad statistics indeed. I can understand why it is still prevelent in third world countries where there is little to no education about it, but in more developed areas of the world it makes no sense to have such high numbers.

That's not all, the statistics show also that around 50,000 Americans are infected every year.  I guess information and education isn't enough.

I agree.  But if you remember, we didn't even have a comprehensive plan on how to deal with AIDS until last year with a national strategy being pushed by Pres. Obama.

Caucasians and African Americans are still the most at risk, with 28% and 48% of those diagnosed with AIDS in 2008 belonging to these groups.

I don't need to say this, but it's really time to protect yourself.  You can't rely on your partner to do all the thinking for you.  For one, it has been found that as many as 20% of people with HIV/AIDS do not even know they have it!
