Hi all..I have not yet read a post that says the serenity prayer..It is the #1 most positive prayer ANYONE can recite..I seem to respond well to slogans and sayings..so they are all over my fridge :)I just thought that maybe someone else might also....
God grant me the serenity to accept
The things I cannot change
The courage to change the things I can
AND..the wisdom to know the difference
Amen...
When I first started in recovery I was so full of low self esteem, and also so much guilt. There were some days that I would simply repete this prayer over and over..until I started to really feel what it says. I found sites and meetings and read and listend to others shares and life stories, and I began to get stronger.
We are all here because we are hurting or have been hurt. We can support each other..in my belief by sharing what has worked for us and by giving away the simple thing called love. Here are a few of my favorites..

Sometimes the good you do...
Does'nt do you any good..

The only thing I have control of is
How I feel..And how I deal....

and..No, is a complete sentence

thanks for letting me share here, I am happy I found all of you :) Life can be ruff at times and we all need a place to go to vent..and this site is so honest and real, that it does my heart good to know there is a place for those who are in pain.I have been around for almost 70 years and I'm still learning..Peace to all of you :)

nothing changes if nothing changes

do what you always do and get what you always get

fake it til you make it

when you point the finger at someone, there are always four pointing back at yourself

and my FAVORITE one is the serenity prayer.

there is a book called "twenty five words" (I think,,,,lol)...but it recounts one woman's struggle with recovery of many different addictions, raising kids, etc...and how the serenity prayer saved her life and brought her to a better place in the world.

It was very well thought out - and very well written - small book, easy read and very inspiring.

peace - funny - not really working any "program"...lol.

I did do coda meetings - therapy didn't help much at all....but coda was very helpful....I didn't work any steps, but understood them - and followed the serenity prayer more than anything.

I read alot - and applied alot of what I read - and even had help of some antidepressants for a while to help me over some of the "bumps" when it seemed I just couldn't make it happen cuz I was so stuck obsessing about everything.

When I found that book - I was in a spiritual type store - that sold all sorts of spiritual stuff - of all denominations and styles.

I was looking at one item that I thought was a book - that had to do with meditations and recovery - but turned out to be book on tape - which I detest....so, the lady goes "how about this one?" and shows me this book - I flipped it over, looked at a few pages and thought "what the hell"....I did alot of impulse shopping that day!!!!LOL....but htis was the BEST purchase of the day.

I didn't put it down - and it really was inspiring. And feel I was "guided" to buying it.

rising...I think your one of the people, like myself who can read and use it to help ourselves to live a better life :) So thats YOUR program.
and it sounds like it works for you..
I am older and do not attend f2f meetings as I don't get out alot. But I have found an Alanon site where I do attend 1 meeting a week. I have done alot of reading and soul searching and have tryed to apply it to my issues. I feel much stronger and healthier in my thinking then ever before. I am real happy that you responeded, hoping to talk again soon. Love, Peace

Hi ((((((Lotsoffear))))))

Good for you for going to meetings. It does all begin with YOU and never forget that. We sometimes live our entire lives in fear..and that is Not the way it is supposed to be :) I was afraid for many years, but then I relized that my children would only learn fear from me not courage. It sucks to be afraid, never knowing how to respond to our feelings and the feelings of others.or at times over-responding.Please continue to go to meetings and share your feelings, and I think you will become alot stronger in time...Then you can change your nic :) Love, Peace

Here's mine...

I will be OK.

It's OK.

These help me when I can't see the light. And I always take deep breaths when I say them. (I get panic attacks.)

I will be OK.

It's OK.

k

"This too shall pass" doesn't hurt either.

how about....
the 3 c's
you didn't cause it...
you can't control it...
and..you can't cure it..

Fear...

false evidence appearing real..

face everything and Recover...

......
Easy does it
Keep it simple
Progress not perfection
First things first
Listen and learn
Live and let live
The only time we fail..is when we stop trying

Love, Peace
