All three of my daughters have shown interest in girls and the oldest is with a girl now that she has been dating for about a year. I do not feel like this is a disorder or anything other than perhaps science. My parents are totally freaked out by it and ofcourse living in the bible belt they tell my children it is wrong and a sin. I think my parents are the ones who really need the counseling because they are prejudice (I know it was how they were raised) and stubborn. I have to do something before they ruin their relationships with my daughters.

I have five daughters altogether. My two oldest are 23 and 21. The oldest one has dated both men and women and is currently with a woman. My 21 year old is a lesbian. I have always told all of my children as long as you are happy and your partner treats you well that is all I want for you. My family is very open when it comes to stuff like that as well but if they weren't I would definitely put my foot down. You don't stop loving your children because of who they love.

I agree that one doesn't stop loving one's children based on their lifestyle. However, studies have shown that a large majority of people who claim to be homosexual or bisexual have sexual abuse of some kind in their childhood. (This is not at all saying that the parents are involved - or even know about it.)

I'm sorry to hear about your parents. My cousin is a teenager and he came out of the closet. Most of our family was pretty accepting except my Dad and one of my Uncles. My Uncle makes excuses to avoid my cousin. My Dad says things that are really nasty--to embarrass my cousin. It's horrible when gay/bisexual people, let alone teenagers, have to deal with this kind of thing. :(

I haven't heard this before but I have heard of studies showing it is due to chemical imbalance. To the best of my knowledge nothing has ever happened to my children but I do know of a few of the girls they dated and a couple of boys that I grew up with that had endured abuse.

Very sad that family members cannot accept people the way they are.  If your daughters are happy then that is what counts.  I don't believe it's a sin and I don't believe that any bi-sexual or homesexual person needs counseling.  I agree that the ones that need the counseling are the ones with a problem with it.
